About Vadodara
Bisected into two by river Vishwamitra, Vadodra (Baroda) is the erstwhile capital of Gujarat's Gaekwad rulers. Hot and humid for most part of the year, Vadodara's metamorphosis into a cool landscape during winter fascinates the imagination of many. Reaching Vadodra is easy as the city falls on the main Mumbai-Ahmedabad broad gauge route. The city has a modern airport and has good road connectivity also. Hotels in Vadodra are very well laid out. Low-budget ones are to the west of the city across Vishwamitra river while mid and high budget ones are near the railway station. Vadodra is known for its palaces, museums and parks. The Sayaji Bagh is a big well-laid park which also houses the Baroda Museum and Art Gallery within its precints. Other attractions within Sayaji Bagh are a planetarium and a small zoo. Maharaj Fateh Singh Museum is another of important tourist spots. The Laxmi Vilas Palace, north of the Maharaj Fateh Singh Museum, has a good collection of artifacts. The Naulakhi Well, a fine example of a step well and EME temple, a unique temple with an aluminum roof, are also worth paying a visit. With Vadodara as the base, embarking on excursions to places like Dabohi, Dakor, Anand, Bharuch and Champaner is also a good idea.
