About Orchha
Once the capital city of the Bundelas, Orchha in the state of Madhya Pradesh is now just a village, set amidst a complex of well-preserved palaces and temples. This beautiful ancient town of India is definitely worth a visit. Architectural wonders, however, abound in this town of ancient India. Situated about 18km southeast of Jhansi, the former capital of the Bundela dynasty languishes amidst a tangle of scrubby dhak forest. This sleepy town of India boasts of numerous places of interest, which are worth visiting. The main attractions here are the Orchha fort complex, located on an island on River Betwa, having a number of palaces to visit within it. The Jehangir Mahal is an important monument of this fort. It is known for its delicate work on one hand balanced with strong masonry on the other. There are a number of interesting temples to visit in Orchha. These are the Raja Ram Temple, the Chaturbhuj temple and the Laxminarayan temple which is a unique blend of temple and fort architecture. More
