About Gwalior
Steeped in the splendour of its past, the ancient capital of Gwalior has
today made a successful transition into a modern Indian city, vibrant and
bustling with life. This city has many interesting places which bring
millions of visitors every season. There is an endless list of places where
one can capture a glimpse of Gwalior's glorious past. There is the Fort
standing in its historical majesty, which is a beauty in itself. Then is the
Man Singh Palace a charmingly eccentric palace also known as the Chit Mandir
or Painted Palace due to the tiled and painted ornamentation of ducks,
peacocks and elephants. The other palaces are the Karan Palace or Kirti
Mandir, Jehangir Mahal and Shan Jahan Mahal, all of which are worth
visiting. Within the Gujri Mahal is the Archaeological Museum, which houses
an extensive collection of Hindu and Jain sculptures and copies of the Bagh
Caves frescos. Teli ka Mandir and the Sasbahu temple are some important
temples in this beautifully planned town of Madhya Pradesh. Other important
tourist attractions in the city are Surya Mandir (sun temple), a replica of
the famed Konark Sun Temple in Orissa, Baija Taal cultural complex, museum
of the freedom fighters, and Kala Vithika.
Gwalior is easily accessible from any part of the country for its is well
connected to all of India by air, rail and road.
